The Assigned Counsel Defender Plan of Suffolk County (“SCACP”) is a not-for-profit organization seeking qualified attorneys who are willing to accept assignment of cases pursuant to County Law 18b. Particularly, they are in need of Spanish speaking attorneys, as the panels are woefully short on such bilingual attorneys.
Being on the Assigned Counsel Panel allows you to seek justice for indigent clients throughout the County. It also allows you to maintain your status as a sole practitioner or law firm, as our attorneys serve as private contractors. Our program provides supervision, training and support for all panel members. Assignments will depend on your experience level.
Once we receive an application, it is reviewed by the Administrator and the Screening Committee is convened for an interview with the applicant(s).
