Call for Interpreters

The LIHBA is seeking to gather a database of members and non-members who are fluent in both English and Spanish to assist in translating documents, articles and other information, as well as assisting non-Spanish speaking attorney volunteers with legal consultations. All consultations will be done remotely.

The LIHBA is seeking volunteers to provide a free one-hour legal consultation remotely (either by phone or video service. Lawyers who practice in the following areas are especially needed: Immigration, Criminal, Landlord/Tenant, Estate Planning/Surrogate, Medical Benefits.

Legal Information Program

The LIHBA Legal Information Program was created to provide accurate, relevant information to the Latino community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. LIHBA’s goal is to reduce uncertainty by sharing facts about community members’ rights.

In partnership with the Nassau County Office of Hispanic Affairs, the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association is offering free legal information on COVID-19-related issues. All information is provided by LIHBA members upon receipt of an intake form.

Our Community Partners

The Office of Hispanic Affairs (OHA) is a Nassau County department that serves as the link between County government and its large Hispanic population.

OHA’s mission is to coordinate resources that educate, empower, and support integration initiatives, helping the Hispanic community take part in the county’s social, economic, and civic life.

Working with the County Executive and other agencies, OHA researches, analyzes, and implements policy to ensure equal opportunities, meaningful engagement, and access to County government.

The Hempstead Hispanic Civic Association (HHCA) provides community services for Village of Hempstead residents.

We offer housing counseling and advocacy, recreational and instructional programs, guest speakers, parent leadership training, family counseling, and bilingual tutoring for elementary students by high school Hispanic youth.

HHCA is a nonprofit agency located in Hempstead. We’re here to help our community—stop by for more information!

Pronto of Long Island provides food to families in need through donations from community partners, food drives, and the private sector.

Our Thrift Center offers gently used clothing, shoes, and bedding, while our Warehouse provides household items—both open during regular business hours and constantly restocked with new finds.

We also run Shots for Tots, an immunization program for uninsured children up to age 18, offered the first three Wednesdays of each month (9:30 am–2:30 pm) with a $5 administrative fee. Services are first-come, first-served.

Círculo de la Hispanidad, Inc. has been serving the community for over 40 years, advocating to empower the underserved and protect human and civil rights.

We address issues such as economic development, education, leadership, health, and more—providing services to over 5,000 individuals and families each year.

Since 2010, our state-of-the-art community center has been home to programs that continue to improve the lives of many across Long Island.

SEPA Mujer, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that has supported immigrant women on Long Island since 1993.

We bring together community members and advocates to speak out against injustice, provide access to services and opportunities, and take a stand against domestic violence and other abuses.

Through individual support and partnerships with immigrant rights, civil rights, and domestic violence organizations, SEPA Mujer continues to push for social change.
