New York’s Latino Bar Associations Issue Joint Statement on Calls to Remove Senator Luis R. Sepúlveda as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee

LONG ISLAND, NY-July 10, 2026

The Long Island Hispanic Bar Association, together with the Puerto Rican Bar Association, the Dominican Bar Association, and the Hudson Valley Hispanic Bar Association, has issued a joint statement addressing recent calls to remove Senator Luis R. Sepúlveda as Chair of the New York State Senate Judiciary Committee.

The statement reaffirms the importance of preserving judicial independence, protecting the integrity of New York’s judicial selection process, and ensuring that attorney-legislators are not discouraged from fulfilling their professional and ethical responsibilities. The associations emphasize that the administration of justice must remain guided by constitutional principles, professional qualifications, and the rule of law—not political pressure or special-interest influence.
